Chinedu Udoji is determined to break the hoodoo of not making it past the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League as Captain of Enyimba.
The last time current Nigerian champions qualified for the tournament in the 2013/14 season they were eliminated by Real Bamako of Mali in the preliminary stage and that still hurts the Aba Elephant defender.
Speaking ahead of their first leg preliminary match against Vipers SC of Ugandan, the 27-year-old revealed: ‘As captain of the team, we haven’t made it past the second round in the last two years,’ Udoji told the club’s official website.
‘This time, my teams and I wants to break that hoodoo and reach the group stage. We therefore know what is at stake in this Vipers game and will make sure we qualify. It’s a must for me.’
Kenyan referee Israel Lemayian Mpaima will be in charge of proceedings when Enyimba take on Vipers at the Nakivubo memorial stadium.
