Enyimba striker Mfon Udoh has called on his team-mates to ensure they all put in a good shift on Sunday against Tunisian giants, Etoile Sportive du Sahel in a CAF Champions League fixture.
Two-time winners Enyimba will be facing a familiar foe when it battles with Tunisian giants, Etoile Sportive du Sahel over two legs for a place at the lucrative pool stages. The history of both clubs in the competition is legendary and the 2004 edition readily comes to mind when the ‘Peoples Elephant’ as Enyimba are nicknamed braved the odds to defeat Etoile on penalties after a 3-3 tie on aggregate.
Udoh who already has four goals to his name in this year’s campaign says he expects a tough game but insists his side’s qualification to the group stage -a feat that has eluded them for almost a decade is non-negotiable.
“My target and that of my team-mates i believe is to make sure we scale through to the group stage which has eluded the team for more than a decade now. We all know the importance of Sunday’s clash, any result other than an outright victory is unacceptable by our standard.
“We’ve been working hard in training and i think come Sunday, our efforts in training will be rewarded with a good victory and that can only be achieved by our collective concentration, focus and determination.” Udoh told fcnaija.com
On how much of their opponent he knows, the former Akwa United man added: “Honestly I don’t know much but what I do know is that they’re a very good side.”
To all Enyimba fans, the prolific forward said: “As much as we expect their support, we promise to be at our best and put smiles on their faces.”
Having successfully navigated its way past Ugandan and Burundian champions, Vipers and Vital’O respectively in the preliminary and 1/16th round, with a 2-1 and 6-3 aggregate wins, Enyimba has all it takes to overcome the 2007 winners in this encounter at their adopted, 45,000-capacity Adokie Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt to make the return leg a mere formality.
