Reigning Nigeria League champions, Enyimba have a tough test in their hands as they face Egyptian giants, Zamalek in a crucial Group B CAF Champions League clash in Cairo on Monday night.
The build-up to the must-win clash for Enyimba has been shrouded in controversies more around Zamalek trying to bring the match forward for whatever reasons.
But with the game now fixed for Monday night, Zamalek will look to transform their recent domestic cup triumph into their CAF Champions League campaign after two disappointing losses against current group B leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Zamalek suffered a 2-1 shock home defeat against the South African side in mid-July before losing the away game 1-0 ten days later.
The only win for the Egyptian club is the away win in the opening day against Enyimba and they now need to at least get a point at home to stay in pole position for a slot in the semi finals together with Sundowns who are through already.
For Enyimba, despite being on zero points after losing to Zamalek and Sundowns, a win for the Nigerian champions would ignite their qualification hopes, as they will then tie with Zamalek on three points and will still have one game in hand against Sundowns in the final round.
Zamalek will be in full strength for the game with new signings Ali Fathi and Shawky El Said boosting their starting squad, whilst the impressive trio Mahmoud Abdel-Razik ‘Shikabala’, Bassem Morsi and Ayman Hefny will look to make life difficult for the Nigerians.
On their part, Enyimba can bank on the experience of their players who made it to the NPFL All-Stars team that were in Spain for a tour just concluded.
