Real Madrid registered a comfortable 3 – 1 win over Cadiz in the Cope Del Rey clash on Wednesday night but their win may be soured by reports that trickled in much later in the game that the Spanish giants fielded an ineligible player in Denis Cheryshev.
Cheryshev, on loan from Real Madrid to Valencia in last year’s campaign, was booked in the tournament against Barcelona, Getafe and Real Sociedad and by the tournament’s rules, he should have served a one match ban, which was overlooked by Real Madrid.
He went on to score the first goal on the third minute as Madrid without star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, never seemed convincing in the opening exchanges but still took to the break the lead.
Cheryshev was relegated to the bench at the start of half time with the reports starting to trickle in and while at it, reports further stated that Borja Mayoral should never have made it to the Real Madrid bench as he is on a red card picked in the final of the tournament.
Isco doubled Real Madrid’s lead on the 65th minute, controlling a long ball well before firing the second for his team and Isco got his second of the night nine minutes later, cutting back and unleashing a shot that took a deflection on its way home.
Kike Martinez pulled one back for Cadiz but it was too late to stage a comeback.
