The Kenya U17 national team, Emerging Stars, has been reinstated to the COSAFA U17 tournament and will play in the semi final after Zambia was disqualified over age cheating at the tournament.
Zambia had finished top of Group B in the first round with nine points out of three matches, one of which was a 4 – 0 win over Kenya.
Kenya lodged a complaint over age cheating by the Zambia lads and according to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) head of delegation in Mauritius, where the tournament is being played, Chris Amimo, the appeal was successful.
“We have been informed by COSAFA that Zambia has been disqualified and Kenya will be playing in the emi final of the tournament against South Africa,” Amimo stated.
As a result, Kenya will play South Africa in the semi final scheduled for Friday 29 July.
Kenya was initially scheduled to return home on Friday after losing their last group game, 5 – 0 to Malawi.
