Authoritative Spanish news site, Marca is reporting that Rafa Benítez has been given his marching orders at Real Madrid.
Though an official proclamation is still been awaited, Marca was affirmative that club president, Florentino Pérez dismissed Benitez early on Monday afternoon, with Zinedine Zidane poised to take the step up from B-team Castilla in order to assume the reins.
The last statement on the Real Madrid site reads thus: ” Real Madrid C. F. president, Florentino Pérez, will speak to the media today at 7:30pm CET at the Santiago Bernabéu, following the meeting of the club’s Board of Directors.
“Media wishing to attend the event must do so bearing the relevant professional accreditation or that of their company at gate 59 of the stadium, located on Calle Padre Damián, from 6:45pm”.
The abrupt end to Benítez’s reign has been attributed to the recent poor results and the tactician’s fractious relationship with a number of the squad heavyweights.
