Lukaku scored a brace against Ireland
After losing their first game 2-0 against Italy, Belgium’s right back in contention with an impressive 3-0 thrashing of the Republic of Ireland.
After a goalless opening half, Lukaku scored the Belgians’ first goal at the tournament with a neat finish from the edge of the area.
Axel Witsel headed in a second in the 61st minute, before Lukaku sidefooted home after a quick counter.
The Republic did not force goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois into a single save.
Defeat leaves Republic of Ireland needing a victory in their final game against Italy, who have already qualified as Group E winners, on Wednesday to have any chance of qualifying for the last 16.
Meanwhile, Belgium need just a point to book their place in the next round when they take on Sweden on the same day in Nice.
In the best moments of the game, for Lukaku’s first, a crisp finish from the edge of the area, was followed by a powerful headed effort from midfielder Witself.
Eden Hazard then skipped over a rash Ciaran Clark challenge and picked out Lukaku in the middle, who tucked the ball past Darren Randolph in the Irish goal.
