Franck Ribery was among the goals even though American winger, Julian Green was the star performer for Bayern Munich late Saturday night as he scored a first-half hat trick in a 4-1 preseason friendly win over Inter Milan in Charlotte.
Ribery who has spoken of his delight at working with new coach Carlo Ancelotti ahead of former manager Pep Guardiola is proving to still be as lethal as he used to be in Bayern’s pre-season outings.
Meanwhile Green, a Bayern Munich youth product who has been seeking to break through to the reigning Bundesliga champions’ first team full time seized the moment on Saturday.
The 21-year-old scored his first just seven minutes in, as he made a run to goal as David Alaba’s cross came in, and finished neatly to put Bayern up 1-0.
His second came at the half-hour mark, as he and Franck Ribery were pushed up into Inter’s half and pounced on a poor play by an Inter defender to take a breakaway, with Ribery feeding Green, and the American providing a nice finish.
And he capped it off five minutes later by one-timing Rafinha’s cross to make it three for the day.
While Green will surely use the good showing to push to stay in Ancelotti’s plans, some are celebrating his accomplishments in creative ways.
