Argentina and Barcelona stasr Javier Mascherano has reached an agreement with the prosecution regarding the two counts of tax evasion he is soon to be tried for.
According to Marca, Mascherano has accepted to pay a fine of 816,000 euros and a one-year prison sentence that at the end of the day he will not actually have to serve.
The deal between prosecution and defence does not mean that the trial will not go ahead, but rather that as both parties have found common ground, the whole process is sure to be much faster and without the risk of the player ending up in jail.
Back in October, Mascherano had already pleaded guilty of tax evasion on both counts before the judge in Gavà. The player was also quick to pay the amount of tax he had attempted to avoid paying – around 1.6 million euros.
