Barcelona legend Xavi has hinted that he might return to Barca in a coaching role after he finishes his playing career as he currently trains as a coach in Qatar.
On 21 May 2015, the former Barcelona midfield maestro announced that he would join Qatari club Al Sadd at the end of the season on a three-year contract, bringing to an end a 24-year romance with the Catalans.
According to his agent, the Qatar deal involved him becoming an ambassador for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the country and also to start his coaching qualifications. The 35-year old who is currently honing his coaching skills at the prestigious Aspire Academy in Qatar has now set his eyes on a return to Catalonia but this time as a gaffer.
“I like the pitch, being close to the actual football, what happens in the game itself. I’m going to learn the trade – I’ve already started my education here at the Aspire Academy.
“I’m following Spanish football from over here while I’m still playing, and I’m really enjoying myself.
“After that, I don’t know what the future will hold for me, but of course I’d like to return to Barça one day. That’s my aim and the closer it is to the pitch, the better.” Xavi told Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
The four-time Champions League and eight-time La Liga winner is currently plying his trade in Qatar for Al Sadd, after he bid an emotional farewell to the club where he spent nearly two decades.
