Barcelona coach Luis Enrique says he was delighted with the performance of his team in Saturday’s away win against Las Palmas in a La Liga week 25 fixture.
Barcelona were made to work hard for a 2-1 win at the Estadio Gran Canaria with first half goals from Suárez and Neymar Jr proving just enough for maximum points.
Another victory in the bank thanks to the 2-1 away win means Barcelona are now nine points clear at the top of the La Liga table to sit above the teams from the capital Real and Atletico Madrid in third and second place respectively.
“Today we have put in a more effective performance than usual. With a game every three days all we can ask is that we keep competing. Luis Enrique was quick to dispel any ideas of a lack of intensity in the Estadio Gran Canaria. “Today there was no lack of rhythm to the game. At some moments, given we were on the attack, we suffered more on the counter than is normal.
“The up and down nature of the game in the last 10 minutes came because they [Las Palmas] were looking for the equaliser, we had chances to close the game out as well.
“We can be more or less sharp in front of goal but I’m happy with what I have seen- Obviously we can improve things, we have extended our lead [in the league] and we will have to see what the others do.” Enrique told the Barcelona official website.
For Luis Enrique, one of the reasons the victory was not more comfortable was due to the excellent performance of the Las Palmas goalkeeper.
