Wales forward Gareth Bale says they have no regrets whatsoever after being dumped out of the Euro 2016 Championships at the semi final stage courtesy of a 0 – 2 loss to Portugal in Lyon on Wednesday 6 July.
The team had defied odds to finish top of their group and was only undone by two quoickfire goals in a span of three minutes but Bale says they take a lot of pride in their shopw at the tournament and lauded their fans for the support.
“We have to be proud of ourselves,” the forward said. “We have given everything on the pitch and off the pitch and tried to enjoy the experience.”
“We want to thank the fans for all the support we have had, they have been absolutely incredible,” Bale said. “I felt we deserved better.
“We wish we could have done it for them and we’d like to thank all the fans at home and all the ones who have travelled out and behaved themselves,” he noted.
The disappointment was however very evident as Bale said they gave their all and fought hard. They will definitely be looking to build on the experience for the future.
“It is difficult to analyse now as we are obviously massively disappointed.
“We tried our hardest to get back in the game, we fought until the last second and we are sorry we couldn’t get to the final, but we gave it everything.
“It’s been an amazing journey. We look forward to the future.” He added.
