Manchester United defender Eric Bailly will miss the club’s game against fierce rivals Liverpool after his country, Cote D’ Ivoire qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations.
United host Liverpool on January 14, but Bailly would already be with his international teammates to defend the Africa Cup of Nations title they won last year.
The African tournament holds from the 14th of January to the 5th of February next year in Gabon, and the 22-year old would already be away on international duty by the time Jurgen Klopp’s men visit Old Trafford.
Cote D’ Ivoire were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Sierra Leone on Saturday but it was enough to see them through to Gabon next year.
Bailly has been impressive for the Red Devils since signing from Villareal, and has gone on to forge a formidable partnership with Daley Blind, keeping out Chris Smalling in the process.
It won’t be only Jose Mourinho that will miss a key member of his squad going into the game however, as Sadio Mane will also be unavailable for Klopp after Senegal also booked their place at the Africa Cup of Nations.
