The diminishing fortunes for the 2009 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka came to the fore in the game against Mathare United at the Machakos Stadium as the Slum Boy hit Sofapaka 5 – 2 in the early kick off.
Sofapaka had a nightmare start to the game, conceding on just the fifth minute as Roy Syamba gave Mathare United the lead. Eric Johanna added the second on the 35th minute and on the stroke of half time Obadiah Ndege got the third to see Mathare head to the break with a healthy lead.
Sofapaka came back revitalized and managed to pull two quick goals with Brian Nyakan scoring immediately after the restart before Heritier Luvualu netted with a penalty four minutes later.
The comeback was on, until Fredrick Kentile handled the ball in the box to concede a 58th minute penalty that was dispatched by Noah Abich while Obadiah Ndege wrapped up matters on the 78th minute.
In the late kick off, Tusker recovered from a goal down to beat City Stars 2 – 1. Jimmy Bageya opened the scoring early on for City Stars but Anthony Ndolo restored parity before a long range attempt by Humphrey Mieno sealed all the points deep in the second half.
Out in Awendo, Ushuru FC managed their first win of the season courtesy of Maurice Odipo’s solo strike to sink Sony Sugar.
League action continues on Sunday.
