FSV Frankfurt forward Taiwo Awoniyi has praised his Dream Team VI teammates following their qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The 18-year-old was injured and missed the 1-0 win over Senegal at the on-going CAF U-23 Championship. Stand-in Captain Oghenekaro Etebo scored the only goal of the encounter but it was the heroics of goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel that saved the day against the 10-man.
‘I give thanks to God for the victory,’ he exclusively told SportigLife. ‘For the first time ever I was injured and not able to play and help the team but am grateful for the win. Am getting better and hope to play in the final.’
Awoniyi’s absence allowed U-17 World Cup topscorer Victor Oshimen make his debut and he gave a good account of himself according to the on loan Liverpool forward.
‘Oshimen had a great game and showed remarkable fighting spirit which helped the team – am happy for him,’ he revealed.
