Fernando Torres is set to leave Atletico Madrid after Diego Simeone turned down the chance to sign the striker on a permanent deal from AC Milan.
The 31-year old joined his childhood club on loan from AC Milan, and it was expected Atletico would seal a permanent deal for him, especially given their one year transfer ban which kicks in from the end of the current transfer window but it has been revealed that Simeone has instead declined the opportunity.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker has scored just two goals in La Liga this season, which has left Simeone unimpressed and instead, the club is planning to recall striker Borja Baston, who is out on loan at Eibar.
The once-prolific striker has struggled for form since quitting Liverpool to join Chelsea in January of 2011, and has since moved to Italy with Milan, before being brought back to his boyhood club on loan.
It is expected that Fernando Torres will now pursue lucrative contracts either in China, the Middle East, or in the MLS as he turns 32 in less than two months.
