Though Nigerian youngster, Alex Iwobi was inactive in Sunday’s London derby, the marked improvement in his game and confidence has been applauded by Arsenal skipper, Mikel Arteta.
Arteta actually tipped Iwobi to succeed at Arsenal as he submitted that he was impressed with the teenager’s versatility in the games he has played so far this season.
Iwobi who already has starred for the Super Eagles has been involved in seven first – team matches so far this season, including the Gunners penultimate Premier League clash against Stoke City that he lasted 20 minutes on the Britannia Stadium turf.
“You can see the change in his confidence after being given some minutes in the first team,” Arteta said, according to arsenal.com.
“The Stoke game was a good example of that. He came on and had an impact straight away. His decision-making was excellent and the game didn’t run quicker than him.
“To do that against a tough team in a difficult atmosphere tells you he is improving and moving forwards.”
Iwobi was one of the four youngsters that trained with the Arsenal first – team before Sunday’s game against Chelsea at the Emirates.
He was not considered for action however.
