Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has slammed the Gunners for what he described as a poor display in their Boxing Day 4-0 defeat against Southampton at St Marys’.
Arsene Wenger’s side were fully aware that three points would see them rise to the top of the Premier League table but the Gunners failed to seize the opportunity.
A double from Shane Long and goals from Cuco Martina and Jose Fonte secured all the points for the Saints, who entered the game having lost four of their last five in the league.
After the match, speaking on BT Sport, Wright criticised his former club’s performance and also their attitude, especially in the second period.
“I think the worst that Arsenal should have left there with is at least a draw,” said Wright.
“My mistake at half-time was thinking that I was in that dressing room. “If it were me, I would have been coming out in the second half trying to prove something. My mistake is thinking that those Arsenal players think like I do.”
Arsenal will definitely be keen to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome another tricky team, Bournemouth to the Emirates on Monday.
