Arsenal have been boosted in their race for Wolfsburg’s star Julian Draxler following reports that the former Schalke 04 man has insisted he wants to leave end his union with the club this summer.
The decision of the World Cup-winning playmaker who impressed for Germany during Euro 2016 is set to spark a Europe-wide bidding war as he is on the radar of several top clubs in Europe
Draxler according to told Bild said: “After the Euro 2016 I clearly said to Dieter Hecking that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach is aware of that for the past three weeks.
“When I transferred to Wolfsburg in 2015, we had a verbal agreement that I can leave the club when a possibility emerges. It was obvious that Wolfsburg showed me a good perspective back then, but also served as stepping stone.
“It was set between all persons involved that I could leave for an international top club when the chance presents itself. It was agreed that we would have reasonable talks, if other clubs show interest.” Draxler stated.
In response to transfer claims, Hecking previously told journalists that his star playmaker who started four of Germany’s Euro 2016 games as the world champions lost out to France in the semi-finals was going nowhere.
An angry Draxler in a statement after the coach’s comment said: “One could have talked to me personally before making public declarations.
“I am surprised that matters regarding my [future] are being communicated in the media. I expected that to go differently. For example that someone approaches me and asks me for my views instead.
“Two days after the semifinal at the Euro I explained my point of view and expressed my wish that I want to leave the club.
“Now I’m back in Germany and things are being communicated via the media rather than with me in person. Now I also wanted to make myself heard.” Draxler added.
