Welbeck Yaw Abra-Appiah, the president of the Premier League Board in Ghana, is upset that the former Chelsea manager is ignoring locally based GPL players.
He doesn’t agree with Grant that the local talent is significantly inferior to those based in Europe.
“I find it difficult to agree with those who think our local based players are not qualified to be playing for the Blacks Stars,”Abra-Appiah told Starr FM.
“If you had your assistant [Maxwell Konadu] in charge of the CHAN team [home-based Black Stars] and there is a friendly in Washington, what prevents you from adding some local players?
“This is because at least five or six players in the team will boost their morale and confidence for future call ups than still inviting the known faces.”
Grant already had troubles putting together a Ghana squad in the USA due to VISA issues and the FA learning late of the tour. Yet, Appiah is up in arms about not selecting locals when many stars pulled out anyway.
“Our coach is a lazy man. He shouldn’t be talking like that. He even doesn’t watch matches and can’t identify talents.”
In any case the Black Stars CHAN team beat Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in their African Nations Championship qualifier on Sunday.
