Emmanuel Amuneke could be made the Super Eagles coach if he does well as the coach of the Nigerian U20 men’s team, the Flying Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation has said.
Speaking to fcnaija.com, Chairman of the Technical Committee, Christopher Green says there will be calls for Amuneke to be made the U23 or Super Eagles coach if he wins the U20 FIFA World Cup next year, and posited that the NFF could be obliged to make that happen.
“If Amuneke does well at the U20, if he delivers the cup to us, everybody in Nigeria will clamour for him to either take over in the U23 or even in the Super Eagles,” Green told fcnaija.com.
“And of course if it happens (if Amuneke wins the U20 World Cup), it leaves us with no option, and it leaves Nigerians with no option.
“A man that has won at the U17 and U20, for goodness sake, he’s going to use the same boys and that is as far as that is concerned,” he posited.
Green explained that it is their policy to promote coaches that have done well at a certain age-grade level to the next level, but stated that U23 coach, Samson Siasia will not be moved to the Super Eagles if he does well at the Olympic Games.
“If Siasia does well with the U23, if he wins, it now behooves on us to see whether to take him to the Super Eagles but we cannot be talking about taking him to the Super Eagles because we have a Super Eagles coach now,” he added.
The NFF announced on Wednesday, its decision to move Emmanuel Amuneke to the U20’s, while Manu Garba has been returned to the U17’s.
