Flying Eagles coach Emmanuel Amuneke will not rule out Victor Osimhen from the U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi until he gets a report for their medical team.
The 17-year old striker pulled his shoulder in the 2-1 friendly win over Samson Siasia’s U23 team in Abuja on Thursday, and while there have been fears that he may miss out on the trip to Bujumbura, Amuneke says he will not rule Osimhen out yet.
“We have to wait for the medical report from the doctors because we don’t know the true situation with him,” he told fcnaija.com.
“He needs to see the doctor first before we decide anything and until then, we don’t know and we cannot make a decision yet,” he stated.
Osimhen pulled his shoulder in the win over their U23 counterparts, but not before scoring the winner for the Flying Eagles.
Daniel Etor had given the Dream Team VI the lead, but Funsho Bamgboye equalized for Amuneke’s men, before Osimhen scored what proved to be the winner.
The Flying Eagles will be in Burundi next weekend for the first leg U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, before hosting the return leg on June 11.
The current Flying Eagles team is dominated by players from Nigeria’s U17 World Cup winning squad from 2015.
