Robbers have carted away the cherished gold medal won by Emmanuel Amuneke at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics with the Dream Team; as Nigeria emerged as the first African country to win the football gold.
Amuneke who play a huge role in that historic feat by scoring the winning goal against Argentina 20 years ago told FIFA.com that his medal was stolen from his Lagos residence few years back.
Amuneke played 27 times for Nigeria, scoring nine goals.
He was part of the team that participated at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, a first-ever for the African country, scoring against Bulgaria (3–0 group stage win) and Italy (1–2 round-of-16 loss).
He also in that year, helped the Super Eagles win the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, eventually being voted African Footballer of the Year.
Recently promoted to handle the Flying Eagles, Nigeria U-20 team, Amuneke who has paid his dues as a player will also be assisting interim Super Eagles boss Samson Siasia for the upcoming crunch games against Egypt.
