Super Eagles striker Sola Ameobi have been rejected by a fourth club in the Championship despite glowing remarks about his abilities.
After previous tries at Wolverhampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town, Ameobi was at the Rebook to try out with Bolton Wanderers but Coach of the side, Neil Lennon has decided against offering a contract to the former Newcastle United forward despite admitting to being impressed with the Nigerian striker.
Ameobi, who is available as a free agent following his release from Crystal Palace, spent a portion of last week on trial with Wanderers, who are desperately looking to boost their forward options after Zach Clough was ruled out until the New Year with a dislocated shoulder.
When asked about his interest in bringing Ameobi to Macron Stadium, Lennon revealed he was pleased with the efforts of the player but believes he has players already signed to deals that possess similar attributes.
“We’re still looking to find a player or two, just to add to what we have already,” Lennon said.
“You want to get it right. We felt Shola was similar to Emile and Gary.
“Although he did very, very good, finances are tight here so we want to make sure we’re spending the money on the right player.”
With this latest setback, it is yet to be seen if Ameobi will continue his desperate search for a club or he would rescind to fate.
