Akwa United assistant coach Ereh Dokubo is confident they are prepared for continental challenges when the 2016 Caf Confederations Cup begins next month, following their win over league champions Enyimba in the Super 4 in Kaduna.
Akwa United, Nigeria Federation’s Cup winners from last season, beat Nigerian league champions Enyimba 1-0 in their penultimate game before drawin 0-0 with Nasarawa United in the final game of the first round of the Super 4 mini-tournament, and Dokubo believes his side has shown enough to warrant a credible challenge on the continent.
“Akwa United is new on the continent, this is our first time in playing CAF competition, but we have prepared ourselves for any opponent that comes our way because the knowledge we have of our first round opponents is not enough to assess them, we just want to go there and give our best.
“We are 80% fit now and that would improve as the Super 4 progresses so we should be more prepared at the end of the Super 4,” he said.
They will play Vita Club Mokanda of Congo away on the weekend of February 12-14, before playing the return leg in Uyo two weeks later.
