Kenyan international midfielder Anthony Akumu is hopeful that 2016 will come with better tidings for Kenya after the national team’s bid to end the year on a high ended in defeat at the hands of Rwanda in the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge.
The team lost 3 – 5 on post match penalties and ahead of their trip back home, the midfielder stated that it was not the kind of ending they had dreamt of in the tournament as they hoped to defend their title.
He now hopes good preparations will be in place to see the team do well in the coming year, starting with the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in March.
“I feel so sad; it was not a good tournament for us and it hurts that we did not live to achieve our aims. Thjat is however gone for now and we can only plan for better outings next year and beyond. I hope all is put in place in good time to enable the team perform,” he said.
The midfielder played in all Harambee Stars’ four matches at the tournament.
