Mohammad Salah fired in a late leveler for the Egyptians in the first minute of added time and that ensured that the Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw by the Pharaohs.
Speaking with Egyptian journalist on arrival home, Cuper said his side was lucky but was also quick to add that they did not deserve to lose the game.
“I can’t deny that we were lucky to score the equaliser against Nigeria, but it was a reward for our performance through the whole match,” Cuper stated.
The valuable draw earned on Friday put Egypt in a comfortable position before they host the Super Eagles in the second of a double-header at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on Tuesday.
The Pharaohs have seven points from three games while Nigeria has five points from as many matches. Only the respective group winners are guaranteed a ticket to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon.
