For the second straight time this season, AFC Leopards failed to get [past their nemesis, Western Stima as the two Kenyan Premier League (KPL) sides put to the side their league engagements to square it out in the GOtv Shield competition.
In the clash staged at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu on Saturday 27 August, Leopards wanted to exert revenge on the team that was responsible for one of their losses in the first leg, a 1 – 2 reverse in favor of Western Stima.
But as it has been the case in the recent past, and especially at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu, it was Stima who triumphed emphatically, registering a 3 – 0 win to advance to the quarter final stage of the competition.
Wesley Kemboi has never had it hard getting his name on the scoresheet whenever Leopards tours the lakeside city and on this day he was on hand to open the scoring on the 17th minute after a strong start from the hosts.
New signing Kennedy Otieno made it two on the 34th minute to hand Stima a comfortable lead heading to the break and the rout against a lackluster Leopards side was completed on the 62nd minute as Otieno grabbed his second of the day.
In the other match played on Saturday, Ulinzi Stars thumped Chemelil Sugar 3 – 1 at the Afraha Stadium to advance.
Enos Ochieng netted a hat trick to see the military side progress to the next round as Jaffar Owiti got the consolation for the visitors.
