Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants AFC Leopards have their mojo back after troubled times in the past two years and the team capped the start of good times with a 1 – 0 win over Bandari FC at the Nyayo National Stadium on Wednesday 2 March.
The club now has a brand new five – year sponsorship from betting firm SportPesa, unveiled earlier in the day and in the field, Kepha Aswani did the job on the fifth minute, scoring the lone goal of the game.
AFC Leopards started well as the Dockers took long to settle and from the left channel, newly signed Cliff Miheso floated in an inviting knee – length cross that was missed by all but Aswani, who with just one touch beat Wilson Obungu in the Bandari goal.
Leopards managed to hold on to their slim lead to the end of a match that had ugly scenes as skipper Obungu clashed with referee Israel Mpaima after the final whistle, apparently for reasons that went against his team.
In the aftermath, it was Ingwe who bagged the prize – three crucial points that saw the team go second on the log with seven points, same to leaders Mathare United who have a superior goal difference.
