Chuba Akpom was once again on the scoresheet as Arsenal eased past Chivas de Guadalajara 3-1 in a pre-season friendly in Los Angeles in the early hours of Monday.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and new signing Rob Holding were the other scorers for the Gunners in the easy win over the Mexican outfit, who only got a consolation 17 minutes from time.
It was Holding who opened the scoring for Arsenal as he scored off an assist from Calum Chambers – his central defensive partner on the day – in the 34th minute and they were two goals up inside the first five minutes of the second half courtesy of fine solo effort by Chamberlain.
Akpom then made it 3-0 only six minutes later to give the Gunners an unassailable lead. The Anglo-Nigerian forward had also scored in the last game, scoring what proved to be the winner in the 2-1 defeat of the MLS All-Star side.
With only 17 minutes left on the clock, Mathieu Debuchy fouled Alex Zendejas inside the Arsenal area and the referee wasted no time in pointing to the spot, and the resulting penalty lick was converted by Angel Zaldivar in what was only a consolation.
Next up is a test game against Vikings of Norway in four days’ time.
