Arsenal are planning a shock move for former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, according to multiple reports.
The Gunners are looking for an experienced replacement for injured Per Mertesacker, who is expected to be out for five months.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted that they need to get an experienced cover for the injured Mertesacker and reports have now linked them with a possible £15m move for Evans.
Wenger is believed to be a huge admirer of the 28-year old, and is reported to have tried to sign him when he was still at Manchester United but the Old Trafford club refused to play ball.
He has since left to join West Brom last summer after being sold by former United manager Louis van Gaal and had an impressive outing for Northern Ireland at the European championship in France earlier this summer.
The Gunners are presently short on experienced defensive cover, as only Gabriel Paulista and Laurent Koscielny are the only experienced center-halves the club has, even though they have some young prospects in Calum Chambers and new signing Rob Holding.
But with Mertesacker missing out till December at the earliest and with the Gunners involved in four competitions next season, Wenger understands the importance of signing another experienced center-half.
