Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray have joined the race for Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, fcnaija.com can confirm.
The 29-year old is believed to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge with another Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas reported to have opened discussions with Chelsea over a possible transfer of the midfielder.
Fcnaija.com has however now been reliably informed that Galatasaray have also joined the race, as they hope to steal the march on rivals Besiktas and signed the Nigeria captain.
“Galatasaray are the latest club to indicate an interest in him (Mikel),” a source reliably informed only fcnaija.com.
“We are not sure what Chelsea have in mind or who has made the bigger offer, but Galatasaray are sure in the race now,” the source added.
Galatasaray were initially linked with Mikel during the January transfer window, but it is believed he turned down the chance to move at that point.
It is however not the first time he has been strongly linked with a move to Turkey, and with just a year left on his contract, it is now left to be seen if he will be allowed to leave or offered an extension.
Top Turkish newspaper, fanatic.com.tr has also seemingly confirmed the interest from Galatasaray, as they report that the former Turkish champions will move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva if they fail to land Mikel.
The club finished a disappointing sixth last season and are going on a recruitment drive to reshape their squad and challenge champions Besiktas and Fenerbahce next term.
