Portugal barely made it to the next round of the Euros following a pulsating 3-3 draw with Hungary in the final group game as Cristiano Ronaldo finally came to the party, but they will have to wait to know if they have progressed.
Zoltan Gera opened scoring for Hungary in the 19th minute as Portugal looked set to exit the competition at the group stage. He picked up the ball from a rebound and from the edge of the box, he unleashed a low shot which went into the bottom right corner.
Portugal mounted the pressure as they sought an equalizer, but the Hungarians showed enough zeal and determination to resist them until the 42nd minute, when Nani found the back of the net to give Portugal a breather going into the break.
Ronaldo provided Nani with a nice pass inside the box, which allowed him to finish with a precise effort into the bottom left corner.
But shortly after the break, Hungary went in front again as a free-kick was fired in by Balazs Dzsudzsak, which one of the opposition players flicked on, leaving Rui Patricio stranded.
Portugal responded barely three minutes later however, as Joao Mario swung a cross into the box and the Real Madrid man scored a magnificent back-heel goal to level the score once again.
Hungary then went in front for the third time in the game, Balazs Dzsudzsak brilliantly slalomed his way forward past a few defenders and unleashesd a shot from the edge of the box that was deflected and went into the back of the net.
And seven minutes later, Ricardo Quaresma producesd a beautiful lofted cross into the box, where Ronaldo rose high to head the ball into the right side of the goal and beyond the goalkeeper as they equalized for the third time in the game.
