Portugal boss Fernando Santos has said his team is not just about Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting that the players are equally important.
Ronaldo has been the main for the underachieving Portugal side over the years and they have come to be seen as a one-man team and that is an impression Santos is trying to correct.
“All of my players are important. Portugal is not a one-man team,” Santos said. “I want to test my whole squad.
“Of course, Cristiano is very important for Portugal but he would be for any other team in the world.
“This game is a good opportunity to prepare my team to play without him. I hope he can play seven games in France but we need to know how to play without him.
“That’s why this game is important, to play without him. Ronaldo said that he played 4,000 minutes this season but all my players were tired before this competition and this is why they had this five or days of rest.
“They had to rest physically and mentally as well because after a season you are tired mentally. I’m not worried about this because we are making good preparations for the Euro.
“When they booked this match we didn’t know they’d be playing the Champions League final. It’s an important tournament in France and we are prepared to play our best football there.’
