The Nigerian U20 men’s team defeated their Burundian counterparts 1-0 in the first leg, second round 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.
Midfielder Agor Chukwudi scored in the 64th minute to give the Flying Eagles, as the Nigerian side is called, the advantage going into the return leg.
The Nigerian side started with the bulk of the players who won the FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile for them last year, with captain Kelechi Nwakali and striker Victor Osimhen headlining the team list.
It was Chukwudi, however, who proved to be the hero for the Nigerians as it was his goal which ensured they will have a 1-0 advantage going into the second leg.
Meanwhile, the return leg will be played at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar, on June 11.
