Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has lamented the last season which saw his club, Chelsea endure a miserable campaign.
The midfielder and his Chelsea teammates endured a horrible Premier League title defence, and exited the Champions League in the first knockout stage and he admits it was a disappointing season for him.
Chelsea finished a disappointing tenth in the just ended Premier League season after winning it the season before and were eliminated in the round of 16 of the Champions League and Mikel says it was disappointing for him.
“As a player you have to be disappointed looking at the season we had given the standards we have set for ourselves.
“We made it to the round of 16 of the champions league but now we have to league ahead to next season because sometimes you just don’t get to win titles,” he said.
The 29-year old experienced some rejuvenation following the arrival of Guus Hiddink after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, and played a big part in Chelsea’s climb to tenth in the Premier League after they had started poorly and flirted with the relegation zone for weeks.
