Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has been singled out for more praise by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger following his impressive debut season.
The Gunners’ boss was speaking on the future of the club ahead of their final game of the season and singled out the 20-year old for special praise in a season that has seen several of their key players suffer varying degrees of injuries.
He said: “We got Iwobi out of the youth academy and he has done extremely well when he came in. As well you must say that you don’t find the players in January extremely available who strengthen the squad.
“I must say it was very difficult for us because we expected Welbeck back [last] April, it was very difficult to envisage that he would be out for such a long time,” he told the Arsenal player.
“Cazorla was out for five months, Coquelin for four months. Could we have done something? We have done something, we have brought in Elneny who has done extremely well.”
Iwobi only made his debut last October in a League Cup game, but has gone on to star for the Gunners in the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Premier League, accumulating 21 games so far under his belt.
He has also notched up two goals and two assists, with one of his goals nominated for the club’s goal of the season for April.
