Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel has hailed Jurgen Klopp for the impact he has had at Liverpool since he replaced Brendan Rodgers last year.
Tuchel is Klopp’s successor at Dortmund, having replaced the Liverpool manager at Signal Iduna park at the end of last season and with both sides squaring up against each other in one of the quarterfinal fixtures of the Europa League and with Klopp making a return to the ground he found so much favour, his successor has already begun singing his praise.
“Liverpool have been getting stronger over the last few weeks, in large part due to Jürgen’s input. They’re very difficult to play against. They defend very high and have outstanding individual quality, particularly going forward. We’re really excited about the game, but we know we need another top performance,” said Tuchel, ahead of the first leg clash on Thursday.
Speaking further, the Dortmund boss also said he expects nothing short of a warm welcome for the man who took them to the Champions League final and won two Bundesliga titles for the club.
“Anything other than a warm welcome [for Klopp] would be a big surprise. He deserves it. He did a great job here. Jürgen is a very, very competitive kind of coach – one of the most competitive guys I know. It’s a special game for him as well.”
While Liverpool have had an indifferent run this season, Dortmund have been in fantastic form with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang in red-hot form and banging in the goals for the German side.
