In this week’s edition of the Nigerian players abroad round-up, we start off from France, the Ligue 1, where former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama was in goal and in good form for Lille and kept a clean sheet as they walloped Nantes 3-0 away from home.
Also in France, Super Eagles left-back Elderson Echiejile was on for Monaco for 58 minutes as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Bordeaux.
In the Bundesliga, Anthony Ujah lasted for 86 minutes but fired blanks for Werder Bremen in their 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, while Leon Balogun was expectedly missing for Mainz though injury as they 4-2 against Augsburg.
In Serie A, Ogenyi Onazi was missing once again in action for SS Lazio as they were felled 4-1 at home in the Rome derby against rivals AS Roma. He was on the bench for the entire duration of the game.
Ikechukwu Uche was an unused substitute in Malaga’s 1-1 home draw with Espanyol, while former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles striker Isaac Success was not listed in Granada’s 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao.
John Obi Mikel was in good form for Chelsea once again as he featured for 90 minutes in the 4-0 win at Aston Villa in the Premier League. Alex Iwobi also continued his good for Arsenal as he found the back of the net and also made an assist in the Gunners’ 4-0 win over Watford. His Nigeria teammate, Odion Ighalo was however not so lucky as he fired blanks for the Hornets in the game.
Kelechi Iheanacho replaced Sergio Aguero in the 79th minute in Manchester City’s comfortable 4-0 win over Bournemouth, but failed to find the back of the net. West Ham United drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace and while Emmanuel Emenike started and lasted 60 minutes, Victor Moses watched the entire proceedings from the bench.
Down one tier in the Championship, Omatsone Aluko put in a man-of-the-match performance in Hull City’s 4-0 win over Bristol City at home, with Osaze Odemwingie playing for 74 minutes for the visitors.
One time Super Eagles’ new kid on the block, Ekigho Ehiosun came off the bench to score within seven minutes of his introduction in Turkey as he scored for Samsunspor in their 2-1 win over Elazigspor in the Turkish PTT 1 Lig. His compatriot, Chikeluba Ofoedu lasted 77 minutes but fired blanks.
Also in the PTT 1 Lig, Nigeria Under-23 skipper Okechukwu Azubuike replaced his countryman, Sunday Mba after 77 minutes in Yeni Matalyaspor’s 1-0 win over Balikirspor.
And in the Super Lig, John Chibuike lasted 78 minutes but couldn’t help Gazientpspor as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Trabzonspor. His compatriot, Gbenga Arokoyo was not listed as he continued his return to full fitness after being out with an injury.
