Antonio Conte will target Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain when he officially takes over at Chelsea, reports have suggested.
Conte is expected to take over at Stamford Bridge in the summer having announced he will quit his position as the Italy manager after the European championship and it is believed he has penciled down Cavani and Higuain as his top targets in the summer transfer window.
While Cavani is said to be interested in a move to the Premier League, Higuain is reportedly reluctant, especially joining a club that will not play in the Champions League next season, given Chelsea’s current league position.
Diego Costa is expected to stay at the Bridge, and Conte has been looking at credible options to add the team’s attack-line with the duo of Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao – who were supposed to provide support to Costa – have spent most of their time at the club with the doctors, rather than on the pitch.
It is as a result that Conte has lined up Cavani and Higuain as he hopes to rebuild the club following a disastrous year which saw Jose Mourinho fired for the second time.
It remains to be seen if they will meet PSG’s asking price for Cavani though, and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic expected to leave, he may choose to stay as that could afford him the chance to play as the club’s key striker like he has always wanted.
Chelsea also added Brazilian Pato to their ranks with the hope he will offer some option, but he is yet to feature as he arrived unfit.
