Egypt have called up goalkeeper Ali Lotfi to the senior squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations return leg qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday at the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
The Pharaohs’ goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagy called up the ENPPI keeper to the squad that will face Nigeria on Tuesday after the injury of Essam El-Hadary just before the first leg in Kaduna last Friday.
El-Hadary was ruled out of the first leg clash against Nigeria, which ended in a 1-1 draw, after sustaining a gastrocnemius muscle injury during the national team’s training session at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
Nagy announced that Lotfi has been included in Egypt squad as a replacement for injured El-Hadary. He will join Zamalek keeper Ahmed El-Shennawy and Petrojet’s Mohamed El-Shennawy in the training camp ahead of the return leg.
The 26-year-old keeper made his Egypt debut in a friendly game against Malawi in June 2015.
Egypt will host Nigeria in the fourth round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at Borg El-Arab Stadium on Tuesday with the Pharaohs leading group G having amassed seven points from three games, while the Super Eagles are second with five points from the same number of games.
