New kid on the block Alex Iwobi missed training with the Super Eagles on Tuesday morning amid reports he is considering dumping Nigeria for England.
The 19-year old Arsenal striker had arrived Nigeria’s camp on Sunday ahead of their crucial back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt and reports emanated from England on Monday that he is being persuaded by English Football Association to play for the Three Lions of England.
The youngster has been capped twice by Nigeria at senior level but is yet to play in a competitive fixture for the Super Eagles. He was conspicuously missing from the team’s training on Tuesday morning at the Abuja National Stadium.
Team officials however informed fcnaija that the striker is suffering from a slight knock and as a result, couldn’t make the training on Tuesday morning.
A source close to the player informed fcnaija that Iwobi was asked by representatives of the English FA not to represent Nigeria.
“He was asked by the FA to choose England ahead of Nigeria,” the source said on the condition of anonymity.
The team will leave for Kaduna on Tuesday afternoon, and will have their second training session at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium later in the evening.
