Spanish giants Real Madrid closed the gap between them and the leading duo of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid after a 4 – 0 thrashing of Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday 20 March, taking advantage of the duo’s slips earlier on the weekend.
Madrid took an early lead through Karim Benzema’s wonderful half-volley on the sixth, and Sevilla had the chance to equalize shortly after but Kevin Gameiro missed a penalty on the 27th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo had the chance to stretch the lead further on the 58th minute but he too, missed from the spot.
He however made amends for his miss six minutes later with the second goal for Real Madrid and Gareth Bale put the game beyond Sevilla two minutes later with his strike.
Four minutes after scoring, Bale was pulled out, Zinedine Zidane introducing Jese on the 70th minute and the youngster came to haunt the visitors, scoring the fourth on the 86th minute to seal it off for Real Madrid.
The win sees Madrid, now on 66 points, move to within a point of second placed Atletico who lost on the weekend and ten points behind league leaders Barca who drew with Villareal earlier in the day.
