Rivers United defender Ayo Asekunowo says that their last minute winner against Nasarawa United at the weekend was ‘miraculous’ and he is excited it happened with his first start this season in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
A 93rd minute goal from their Ivorian import Guy handed the Stanley Eguma side their third home win this season.
Asekunowo had played as a second half substitute for the Port Hartcourt based team in their 2-1 away defeat against Giwa in week four but the win against the bottom team in the league filled the defender with uncontrollable joy.
‘I feel really excited by the win against Nasarawa United in my first start of the season,’ he was quoted as saying by SportingLife.
‘The game was tight and heading for a goalless draw and in my mind I was asking God why is it that my first start of the season and at our backyard, wants to end in a draw? But God did his miracle and we scored in the 93rd minute.
‘We really played well and God crowned our efforts, so I am really happy,’ he added.
Rivers United are currently placed fifth with nine points after five games so far this season.
