In this week’s edition of the Nigerian players abroad round-up, we start off from Turkey, where John Chibuike was a 79th minute entrant for Gaziantepspor in their 2-0 win over Galatasaray. Gbenga Arokoyo remained out with injury. Godfrey Oboabona and Kenneth Omeruo were supposed to come face-to-face but it wasn’t to be as the latter was missing for Kasimpasa in their 2-0 loss to Oboabona’s Rizespor. Chikeluba Ofoedu scored a second half brace to help Samsunspor beat Trabzon 3-0 while his compatriot and teammate, Ekhigo Ehiosun played all 90 minutes but fired blanks.
In France, Vincent Enyeama was at the receiving end of some pounding as his Lille side were beaten 3-0 by Montpellier. Elderson Echiejile was on for the entire duration in Monaco’s goalless draw at Nantes.
Leon Balogun and Mainz returned to winning ways as they secured a 3-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen. The Nigeria international featured for all 90 minutes in the heart of the defence. Anthony Ujah returned to scoring ways for Werder Bremen against Darmstadt but it wasn’t enough as they were held 2-2. Isaac Success was also in action for Granada in their 1-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna
And in England, John Obi Mikel was in good form for Chelsea as they came from a goal down to beat Southampton 2-1 on Saturday. Kelechi Iheanacho won his trophy as a Manchester City player in their Capital One Cup win over Liverpool, even though he spent the entire duration of the game on the bench.
Osaze Odemwingie was not listed in Stoke City’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa and Odion Ighalo fired blanks in Watford’s goalless draw with Bournemouth. Emmanuel Emenike and Victor Moses both fired blanks in West Ham’s 1-0 win over Sunderland. While Emenike started, Moses came off the bench for the Hammers.
