Michael Carrick has rejected the chance to be the latest star to quit European football and head to the Far East for the megabucks in the Chinese Super League.
The Manchester United midfielder is out of a contract in the summer and while the club is yet to offer him a new deal, he is hopeful of ending his career at Old Trafford.
A number of stars from Europe have accepted lucrative contracts and moved to China, including ex-Chelsea midfielder Ramires, Liverpool target Alex Teixeira and former Arsenal forward Gervinho.
An intermediary is understood to have approached Carrick’s advisors with details of interest from several Chinese clubs interested in signing the former Spurs and West Ham star, but was turned down as Carrick is keen to remain primarily at United. Newcastle are also understood to have an interest in signing him if he is unable to extend his stay at Old Trafford.
Chelsea striker Loic Remy remains a target for Chinese side Hebel Fortune with the country’s transfer window set to close.
The Blues rejected an offer from the club earlier this month as they were unwilling to leave themselves without back-up to Diego Costa.
Radamel Falcao has been recovering from injury while new loan signing Alexandre Pato has been busy regaining his fitness. Hebel Fortune are hoping they could yet succeed with a last-ditch bid with Pato understood to be closing on a first-team debut.
Nigeria’s Obafemi Martins has also recently moved to China, joining former Chelsea striker Demba Ba at Shanghai Shenhua
