Nasarawa United coach Kabiru Dogo has played down their unimpressive start to the year, following their 2-1 home loss to newly promoted MFM in their first game of the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The Solid Miners, playing at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, put in a lethargic display as they were outclassed by MFM, who were only playing their first ever game in the NPFL.
But speaking to fcnaija after the loss, Dogo said it is one of those things and much shouldn’t be read into it.
“It is one of those things that happens in football,” he said. “I don’t think we should read too much into it because we were the better side but they were lucky.
“It was a game we could have won but these things happen and we can’t do much but try to improve subsequently.”
The CAF Confederation Cup campaigners started slowly but found some rhythm towards the end, and hit the post twice, and Dogo admits they must be better in front of goal in subsequent games.
“We created and missed a lot of chances, so we must improve in that aspect. We need to make sure we put away the chances when we create them.
“We have lost and we look forward to our next game and we believe we will improve as the season progresses.
“It is a new season and sometimes, it takes a little while for the players to get into some rhythm but I am sure we will be fine,” he added.
