It was an interesting weekend in Serie A as leaders Napoli and Juventus clashed, while Inter Milan and Fiorentina – two of the teams battling for the final Champions League spot – also clashed.
At the top of the table, Juventus became table-toppers after they beat title rivals Napoli 1-0 in Turin. Simone Zaza’s 88th minute goal was enough to see the Old Lady through to the top of the table, while Napoli are now second.
AC Milan continued their push for a place in the Champions League next season with a comfortable 2-1 win over Genoa. Carlos Bacca and Keisuke Honda scored the goals for the Rossoneri, while Alessio Cerci scored a stoppage time consolation for Genoa. Milan remains sixth despite the win though while Genoa are 16th.
Lazio were big winners over relegation-threatened Verona, as they won 5-2 to climb to seventh on the table, following Sassuolo’s 1-1 draw with Chievo. Verona remained glued to the bottom of the table with just 15 points from 25 games and looks destined for a return to Serie B. Lazio’s win and their draw means Sassuolo dropped to eighth, while Chievo are 12th.
Frosinone boosted their survival chances with a 2-1 win at Empoli, moving them a place ahead of Carpi, who lost 1-3 to AS Roma. The win pushes them to 18th on the table, three points adrift of the safety zone, while Carpi sunk further into relegation waters as they’re now 19th.
Roma, meanwhile, move up to fourth following the win, and could have gone as high as third, but no thanks to Fiorentina’s 2-1 win over Inter Milan.
Roberto Mancini’s men are now fifth, and have fallen out of the final Champions League place following the loss, while Fiorentina have taken their previous position.
In the middle of the table, Torino won 3-1 at Palermo, while Sampdoria and Atalanta played out a goalless draw. Bologna then defeated Udinese 1-0.
