Pep Guardiola’s first game as Manchester City manager could be against old foe, Jose Mourinho, as the Etihad club are billed to face Manchester United in a pre-season ‘derby’ in China.
Pep Guardiola is believed to be uncomfortable with playing teams from the same country in friendly games, but Manchester City will earn millions from the fixture and club executives have given the go-ahead.
Negotiations with United are already underway, as they have planned a 10-day training tour of China before heading back to England for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial.
Embattled manager Louis van Gaal has intriguingly played a huge part in pre-season plans, even though widespread reports have that he will be replaced by Jose Mourinho at the end of the current campaign.
The Dutchman meanwhile, has expressed reservations about playing City in a pre-season fixture.
He may however, not be at the helm when the game is held, as Mourinho has been strongly linked with replacing him in the summer.
