Ashley Cole has taken a huge pay cut to join the LA Galaxy as it has been reported that the former Chelsea defender will earn just about £4,000 a week with the club.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Cole, who earned £200,000 a week at Chelsea, will now earn £206,000 ($300,000) a year or £3,966 a week in the MLS, an astonishing drop from what he earned in London.
The 35-year old mutually terminated his contract with Roma before agreeing to join LA Galaxy but will still receive a large chunk of his salary from the Italian club.
Roma’s agreement with Cole means they will still pay part of his salary and he does not arrive LA Galaxy as a designate player.
Cole left Arsenal to join Chelsea in 2006 after the Gunners offered him a contract extension worth £55,000 a week which he famously claimed left him ‘trembling with anger’. He would go on to earn as much as £200,000 a week at Chelsea, where he won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and the Europa League.
He will team-up with former England teammate, Steven Gerard, who has been with the Galaxy since quitting Liverpool last year.
